As the 2021-2022 Winter Training Programmes draw to a close, we are now able to reflect on what has been, on the whole, one-stepping stone back into normality. We are delighted with the volume of training that we have been able to deliver in these times, and the commitment and application to learn and improve has been excellent from all squads, something that is sure to stand them in good stead moving into a highly competitive playing summer.
Over the course of the winter training period, players have encountered many different facets of the game, in order to expand their knowledge, consolidate their learning, and make create a group of more rounded cricketers to achieve success during competition. We have found that the outdoor fielding sessions produced a great deal of energy and athleticism, and led nicely into the highly technical sessions prior to the Christmas Break. Players covered a wide range of Batting, Fast bowling, Spin bowling and Wicket Keeping skills, working with a variety of specialist coaches across this period. It was especially satisfying to see the boys apply themselves to these skills, as with the previous two years being distorted due to the pandemic, expanding the learning and grooving technique has been difficult to maintain consistency in. After the Christmas break, there has been a broader focus into the tactical, team based and fielding aspects of the game, with the various squads being asked to complete team-based challenges and game scenarios, as a means to enhance the levels of team bonding, leadership, communication and tactical awareness.
With this season containing a number of competitive fixtures across all age groups, the preparation that has taken place leads us to be optimistic for a successful summer ahead. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the coaches involved in the winter programme. Without their knowledge, experience and commitment to the players development, these programmes would also not be possible. A special thank you to Tanya Whitton, whose hard work, organisation and communication has enabled us to deliver as much training as we have been able to. Finally, a big thank you to all parents involved in the programme too, for committing to get players to all sessions over the winter period. We look forwards to seeing you all over the course of the competitive playing summer.
